My job devotes a lot of my time now and maybe someone else can enjoy it. Very reliable never left me stranded I rode it to bike week in daytona it gets a lot of attention. It does have a couple small cracks in the fairing. The odo says 50, but that's only the body, the engine is a which had 5, on it when i bought the bike. So i put about 20, on it since But it is an '89 polishes up beautiful. Stock motor, valves have been adjusted by a professional suzuki drag race mechanic here in jacksonville, Barry Kogut.
The swingarm goes out way out if you like i didn't measure it but for the street its perfect where it is. This bike gets a lot of respect everywhere it goes. You will never find another one like it and probably ten years later i will regret selling it lol I think the asking price is fair for what has been done to the bike and its age for someone getting one like this. Anybody can go out and buy a busa or a zx14 but have this bike and you will not be like everyone else!!!!

There were no purpose-built four-stroke sport bikes, most of which were derivatives of regular motorcycles. Those built by Japanese manufacturers were built around an in-line four-cylinderair-cooled engine wrapped in a steel double cradle frame, most of which were similar enough that they became known as the Universal Japanese Motorcycle UJM.
Seeing an unfulfilled market position, Suzuki - which had made its reputation by building two strokes - built its first large four-stroke bikes: the dual overhead camshaft DOHC GS and the GS for the American market in see: Suzuki GS series. The GS arrived soon after and by the formidable GS were impressing customers everywhere. It also witnessed the creation of the then extremely radical and influential Suzuki Katanaa bike stylistically resembling a modern sport bike on the outside but largely built on existing technology of the day, although Suzuki were very quick to adopt the DOHC valve cylinder head with their GSX range including the Katana in This engine was typically very strong, many Suzuki engines get fully deserved "bulletproof" reputations, as many drag racers found out - over BHP was perfectly possible and many ended up being turbocharged and tuned.
The GSXES was well regarded, especially for its fine handling, but again also was another machine that represented the most refined development of its own current generation. At Suzuki it was felt that something much newer was needed for the future, both in chassis and engine terms.
By the mids the motorcycle industry was in a period of decline. Honda and Yamaha had engaged in a production war in order to decide who would become the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer, resulting in oversupply. Brand new bikes went unsold, stacked up in warehouses and dealers' floors. For many years after, consumers could buy new old stock bikes, a previous year's model that had lain in its packing crate for years waiting to be sold, for the fraction of the price of a new bike.
Needless to say, production tanked and manufacturers worried about their futures. In the midst of this market, Etsuo Yokouchi and his team of designers began work on a bike intended to change the market and outperform Honda's Interceptor. They began in on Suzuki's domestic market Gamma with the goal of producing a lightweight two-stroke for the streets.
The RG was the world's first production alloy framed motorcycle. Building upon the Gamma's success, Suzuki introduced the four-cylinder, four-stroke, aluminum framed GSX-R in for the Japanese market. A full 18 percent lighter than comparable bikes on the market, the first GSX-R set the tone for those that would follow. A new aluminum frame was engineered in a distinctive shape with square tubes stretching back over and around the top of the engine, then turning sharply downwards just past the carburetors to beneath the engine where they met the lower tubes.
This design, unheard of at the time, would soon become familiar to a generation of motorcyclists and is often referred to as the "humpback" frame. Where welding would have added unnecessary weight aircraft quality rivets were used.
Weight was reduced further and further until parts failed to make the bike as light as practicable. To save more weight, the suspension was engineered differently from most bikes of the day. The top of the shock was mounted solidly to the frame while the bottom was attached to a banana shaped linkage that housed an eccentric cam below the swing arm.
The resulting system was lightweight, progressive and lowered the bike's overall center of gravity. While the engine used was a DOHC, four valve per cylinder design typical of most contemporary motorcycles, it had unique features that set it apart from other air-cooled designs of the day. The GSX-R used oil to cool parts of the engine otherwise unreachable by air, like the top of the combustion chamber. To provide enough oil for both cooling and lubrication, the team designed a double chamber pump, using the high-pressure side to lubricate the bearings while the low-pressure, high-volume side provided oil to the cooling circuit.Kobus Smith.

Look at photos.When bought, the Gixxer was fitted with a Yamaha R1 tail section, but not for long, as Jon wanted something that represented his idea of what a streetfighter should constitute.
A new subframe was made, and a single-sided swinging arm from a VFR fitted after some modification and a new shock mount designed by Jon, and welded into place by ace chassis-man Gav Goddard at GIA. The bar risers bolted to the stepped top yoke also contain the Motogadget speedo and idiot lights, and a set of fork shrouds from Jon's German streetfighter compatriot, Mario Pollack, help to give the front a chunkier look.
Yet more goodies from Germany include the ultra-wide handlebars, the headlight fairing, and the billet aluminum grips and master cylinder reservoirs. Moving rearwards, the petrol tank from a water-cooled Gixxer sits atop the frame, ahead of more German parts in the form of the seat and tail unit that had, of course, necessitated the bespoke subframe.
That tail section has its lines kept clean and pure by having the number plate mounted on a one-off perpsex plate hanger fitted to the swingarm. The rear lights are recessed neatly into the underside of the tail, with twelve LEDs along the lip that would normally be used to mount the numberplate.
Additionally, the Yoshimura logo that has been cut out of the undertray is backlit, and the small piece of Lexan that you may be able to see tucked directly under the seat is also lit, showing the knuckleduster logo that is engraved into it.
The engine has a set of Yoshimura camshafts, a bank of four 36mm CV carbs, and a set of titanium exhaust headers liberated from a GSX-R that, with some sweating, swearing and bending, were made to fit the oil-cooled engine. A new link pipe was made, directing the exhaust through degrees, allowing the end can to be located underneath the sump.
With a new slash-cut tip on the can, twisting through the downpipes and exiting below the Yoshimura-badged ignition cover, the end result is a look that baffles many onlookers into thinking that the Gixxer is turbocharged. With a number of Yoshimura parts being used, and the logo being in plentiful evidence, Jon wanted to stay with an appropriately race-inspired paint scheme.
It's a Suzuki, so blue and white was pretty much a given, with a twist on the standard Gixxer livery being chosen. The frame became an understated black, the swingarm silver, while the wheels became a racy white with a blue pinstripe. And so, the newly-christened "Yoshi" hit the streets, winning trophies, meeting its hero Revvin' Kevin Schwantz, who, very kindly, scrawled his autograph across the tankand leaving its mark scorched tarmac and smoking rubber wherever Jon went.
Right up until the point, not long after these pictures were taken, where the engine's internals had enough of living a life in the dark, they decided to make a journey out into the big, wide world. Engineering: All by owner.
